Chic Eats | The Berkeley Pret a Portea 'Royal Collection'

The Berkeley is yet another London Hotel celebrating the Diamond Jubilee with their Royal Collection themed afternoon Pret a Portea. They celebrate the Diamond Jubliee with a collection of iconic Royal crowns, hat and fascinators that are too pretty to eat. Prêt-à-Portea is designed to add a creative twist to the classic elements of the traditional English afternoon tea with cakes and pastries resembling the latest catwalk designs for the style conscious. However, from 29th May to 9th June 2012, biscuits, fancies and choux buns have been transformed to resemble the most memorable hats worn by the Royal Family to mark The Queen’s 60th anniversary on the throne.

‘Prêt-à-Portea – The Royal Collection’ will be served in The Caramel Room at The Berkeley from 1-6pm from 29th May to 9th June 2012, £39 per person.(£49 including a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne, or alternatively for the fashion conscious, £55 per person including a glass of couture champagne).

Spree or Splurge | Armour Rings

I have a huge crush on gold, hinged armour rings at the moment, my favourite being Repossi's 'Berbere' link ring, however the £4,050.00 price tag is a little eyewatering. The next best thing is this hinged ring by ASOS for the bargain price of £12.00. I know the ASOS ring is no heirloom piece but as a short term fashion accessory I would say this ticks all the boxes.

One to Watch | Ellery

Ellery Pre Fall 2012
As an avid reader of Vogue & Harper's Bazaar Australia I like to keep my finger on the pulse of established and up and coming Australian designers. One I have been closely watching now for many seasons is Kym Ellery and her eponymous label Ellery.

Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, Kym Ellery completed a fashion design course in Perth, Ellery then  made her way over to London, where she attended Central Saint Martins. It was here that she completed a summer school course in fashion illustration and sketchbook design. Her brand was until recently only available to purchase in Australia and online at non UK websites (so with that comes huge shipping costs & taxes) until Avenue 32 picked up the label. Ellery is now sold on www.avenue32.com giving you a chance to purchase the collection right here in the UK.

I am loving her Pre-Fall 2012 collection (some of it pictured here) using muted tones of gold, black, bone, ivory and grey accentuated with curvaceous peplums and waist cinching belts.

ELLERY’s fast tracking from the one to watch to the one everybody wants.

Style Crush: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was one of my first style icons. At age 16 I would dissect images of her in Vogue magazine and want to emulate her style albeit on a tight high street budget back then. Carolyn was beautiful, chic, stylish and a poster girl for 90's minimalist luxury fashion favouring Prada and Calvin Klein for whom she worked as a publicist for the brand. She made the simple white shirt look feminine, the beanie hat stylish and cargo pants chic. She was never overdone, favouring simple luxe basics such as camel coats, cashmere sweaters, and dark blue denims with her trusted Hermes Birkin.  If she had been alive today I am sure the Internet would be awash with images of her still looking as stylish as she was back then. Below are some of her outfits that were captured on camera.

Vidal Sassoon 1928 - 2012

The world has lost the greatest hair stylist ever.... Vidal Sassoon's asymmetric hair cuts and razor sharp bob's of the 60's were the looks that drove me to learn hair styling as a career in my late teens, I even rocked many of these hair styles myself over the years. For many young women he will be best know for his hair product range, but Sassoon was the pioneer of the hair dressing world and one who will never be forgotten.

Window Shopping | Milan

I have just returned from a wonderful three day break in the glorious city of Milan with my partner. Here in the UK it is utterly miserable, every day we have rain, wind and very little sun, so it made a welcome change to get away for a few days. Days in Milan were spent wandering the streets, browsing the architecture, window shopping and of course eating pizza, pasta, cafe gelato and drinking delicious red wine and coffee while watching the stylish world go by.

A visit to Milan would not be complete without a little bit of shopping of which I will post my new buys later. In the meantime here are some of the photos of the city in all its spring glory.
